Let it breathe

breathing for worry
meeting anxiety with god
There are moments, days, and circumstances when it's too overwhelming to find words to say or even pray. In place of words I release hot tears full of emotion.
It is in these harder moments I remember that even when it feels like God is far away, He is actually as close as my next breath.
Even when I'm not aware of my body breathing--my body breathes for me. God's breath (Genesis 2:7) filling and emptying my lungs.
Scripture encourages us not to be anxious (Philippians 4:6). But peace doesn’t come just from reading those words—we can’t think our way out of anxiety.
We need action.
Next time you're in an anxious moment--let it breathe.
Here's a simple practice I return to:
This gentle practice helps calm the nervous system and center the mind and heart. This week, I’ve been especially drawn to The Message version of Philippians 4:6–7:
Don’t fret or worry. Instead of worrying, pray. Let petitions and praises shape your worries into prayers, letting God know your concerns. Before you know it, a sense of God’s wholeness, everything coming together for good, will come and settle you down. It’s wonderful what happens when Christ displaces worry at the center of your life.
On difficult days, I shape my worries into prayers through breath. When peace returns, I thank the Spirit.
Inhale: Silently name what you need from God.
Exhale: Silently release what you need to let go.
Let it flow. Open the release valve. God is bigger than what you’re facing.
