Do you know what your breath is asking for?

Sara Randall | SEP 29, 2025

The more connected you become with your breath, the better your posture will naturally feel. When you’re tuned in, slouching or hiking your shoulders just doesn’t feel good—because it feels like restricted breathing.

Here’s the thing: your breath has intelligence. It’s something you can be in relationship with. It reminds you. It teaches you. Your breath is the most intimate part of you.

It wants space.

And just as your breath wants space, God wants space in your life.

Have you ever been told to “get your shoulders out of the business of breathing”? What if those shoulder “earrings” have less to do with tight traps and more to do with your feet?

Maybe we recruit our shoulders to breathe because we’re not feeling grounded.

So, where do you feel ungrounded right now—spiritually, physically, emotionally, mentally, relationally?

This morning, a small group of us explored this through movement—breathing, stretching, strengthening, and resting into a grounded, easeful presence. If that sounds like something you need, join us Wednesday at 9:00 AM for a similar practice.

In the meantime, here’s a simple standing practice you can try anytime:

  1. Notice your feet. Ground through three points: base of big toe, base of pinkie toe, (not toe mounds) and center of heel. Press the floor away with those points. Let your arms rest by your sides, palms open and forward.

  2. Inhale: lift sternum and head, sweeping arms overhead.

  3. Exhale: lower sternum and head, palms turn outward as arms lower.

  4. Repeat 6–8 times.

Stay rooted,

Sara

P.S. For reflection: Philippians 4:6–7 (The Message) + Colossians 2:6–7 (The Voice).
