A Practice of Slowing Down + Making Good Space
Sara Randall | JUN 14, 2025

How can you make space in your summer schedule to slow down and simplify--your movement, your breath, your overthinking and overdoing?
What is your relationship with space?
Have you noticed how your body reflects your schedule--or how your schedule reflects your personality?
In sanskrit, "sukha" means good space. 'Su'=good, "kha"=space. In yoga we are stretching and strengthening in ways that feel good and supportive-not forced.
To do this, we need "sthira" which means stability and steadiness.
Our postures should balance stability and good space (ease)--so should a meaningful life.
This is an essential principle in the physical postures of yoga.
On a conceptual level, this is also a descriptor of life.
Look at your schedule. Is it balanced with structure and space? How does your body feel? Is it open, spacious, at ease--or jammed, rigid, tight?
This is a powerful self inquiry. Spend time reflecting and noticing without judgement. It's not about right or wrong, good or bad.
Simply notice where there may be imbalance.
Practicing yoga is not only about time on your mat. Its purpose is to help inform how you live your life.
